After the Fight [for jakkujedi]

It was instinct, to raise his hand. feel the smack of the weight of the lightsaber hitting the leather of his gloves and to ignite. The guard choking him dropped to the floor and Kylo had not looked round once. His gaze focused on Rey, and he pushed himself to his feet, staring over at her. His breathing was hard - from exertion or adernaline, who knew - but his gaze did not move.

"If you get arrested, that won't help them at all," he stressed, still looking in a bit of a daze. Without another mind invading his own... Had it always been so quiet? He needed to deal with Hux, he couldn't let Rey get caught up in that.

Then... he needed to work out where he stood

"Well, where am I supposed to go?" Rey asked. She didn't want to leave him, not now. But she knew he had a point.

"I... don't know." He didn't, he didn't know what to do about anything. For the first time in as long as he could remember, his mind was free of outside influence, and yet he couldn't think of a single thing to do here. What... what would work best?

"They're expecting you?"

"I don't want to leave you." Rey said, finally expressing what she was feeling. They didn't have a lot of time, she knew that. She just didn't want to leave him. She felt like if she did, she might never see him again.

"If they find you here, they will kill you." His voice was blunt, stating the facts and nothing else. It shouldn't need to be said that he didn't want her dead; he had killed Snoke in part because his... the man had ordered him to kill her. Even if their Bond was false, he knew that Rey had to be alive: to be his equal. To be... something.

"I need you alive," he frowned at the words coming out. "You... there's more to this story."

"Promise me, Ben. Promise me if I leave right now I'll see you again." Rey pleaded with him. If he promised her, she could go. She trusted him. She just didn't want to leave.

That lead to a silence, staring at her.

"I can't make that promise," he said, regretting the honesty immediately. It was true, though. Even though he would like to be able to confirm to her that, yes, this was temporary and they would be in each other's company again, he knew he couldn't do that/

"But if you stay, any chance of it falls further away."

Rey nodded. She was still reluctant to leave him. But she had to trust that she would find him again.

She'd find a pod and get out of there, follow the Beacon and go back to the Resistance. She only hoped she could help save them.

He looked around them, as if seeing all the debris for the first time.

"...It might not even be safe for me here," he mused, sounding almost amused at the thought of it.

"Then we should both leave." Rey said, offering her hand. "Come with me, Ben, please."

He looked at her hand, and around, before back at the hand.

"... I can't."

"Yes, you can." Rey said. "You can, Ben. All you have to do is take my hand."

"They'll kill me." It's not quite clear who he means. The First Order, or the Resistance. At this point, both are likely answers.

"No, they won't. I won't let them." Rey assured him. "And your mother won't let them either. All you have to do is come with me now. But we don't have much time, you said so yourself."

"If I go with you, Hux will take over," he pointed out. "Starkiller was his idea."

"And if you stay, you might die." Rey reminded him. "So what are your options here?"

He could stop Hux, he wanted to point out. Some measure of control to stop the First Order from getting as bad as it had been. Scale them back, actually use them to do good in the galaxy instead of becoming.... becoming what? And they were doing good, weren't they? Bringing order to lawless planets, providing order and justice where it was lacking? Those were good things. So why did his mind say they could do good, if he didn't already think that they were?

"... I don't know."

"I don't mean to rush you, Ben." Rey said. "But we're nearly out of time here, we have to...do something." And she didn't want to leave him. She felt like she would never see him again.

"Doesn't Hux have to take orders from you now? Can't you order him to stand down?"

"He wouldn't do it, not completely," Kylo said, knowing all too well that Hux would stand down... as soon as every ship was gone. Every ship... The longer they waited, the less chance there was.

And something inside Kylo Ren snapped.

"Follow me."

"Okay." Rey said. She was trusting him now. She didn't know where he was going or what they'd be doing. But she wasn't leaving him here on his own.

He grabbed her wrist, turning to drag her behind him as he stormed through the ship, face set in a murderous image. It made people move away from him quickly, worried at what might happen if they dared to stop Kylo Ren from whatever it was he had planned.

And it kept their path to his ship free.

That hadn't been what she expected, but she trusted Ben. She pretended to struggle with his grip a bit, to really sell it. No one was willing to stop him when he looked this pissed off. Hopefully that included Hux too.

Hux, it would appear, was apparently lacking in some sense of self perservation.

"Ren!" The ginger snapped. "Our leader is dead and you swan off?"

"I am taking the prisoner," a tug on Rey's wrists, "to my Knight, General," the word was sneered, "in order to make sure the spark of the Jedi is fully extinguished."

His voice was low, dangerous, and ... entirely convincing.

"I would advise not being in my way."

Rey really wanted to hit Hux. Like she wasn't sure she'd ever wanted anything more. He was what needed to be extinguished.

But she continued to struggle with Ben, as he dragged her along. Hopefully it would be enough to convince Hux to leave them be.

Frankly, Kylo's own feelings on Hux were very similar. The man was exactly what they needed to scorch off every planet face. Still, the General was a necessary evil... or at least he had been compelled to think him so. Right now, he was just an annoyance.

"You think your Knights can really do the job? You don't keep them around."

"The Knights of Ren," Kylo's voice cut through whatever rant Hux had started, "are not to be commanded by some boy who plays at armies. If you don't mind, General," he tugged Rey's wrists again, "leave the Force users to the Force users."
